Sedan, Innova or Tempo Traveller? Choosing the Right Vehicle for Your Group Yatra
One of the first questions we ask when someone calls to book a trip is, “How many people, and how much luggage?” The answer decides the vehicle, and the vehicle decides how comfortable the whole trip feels. Here is a simple way to choose.
Sedan: up to 4 passengers
A sedan works well for couples or a small family on short routes, such as Jaipur sightseeing or a day trip to Khatu Shyam Ji. Boot space is limited, so it suits two medium bags, not four large suitcases.
SUV: 6 to 7 passengers
An SUV like an Ertiga is a good middle option for a family of five or six. The third row is fine for children or short distances, but adults may find it tight on long highway drives.
Premium SUV (Innova): 7 passengers
For long routes, such as Jaipur to Udaipur or Jaisalmer, a premium SUV is far more comfortable. The seats are better, there is more legroom, and the ride on the highway is smoother. Most families travelling with elders choose this.
Tempo Traveller: 12 or 17 seats
Once your group is above seven, a Tempo Traveller is usually cheaper and easier than booking two cars. Everyone travels together, stops together and reaches the temple or hotel at the same time. It is the most common choice for group darshan trips to Khatu Shyam Ji, Salasar Balaji and Pushkar.
The Force Urbania is a newer, more comfortable alternative, with a smoother ride and a more car-like cabin.
Bus: up to 50 passengers
For large groups such as satsang mandalis, school trips, wedding guests or company outings, a bus is the practical option. Check parking rules at temples in advance; during melas, buses are often parked further away.
Things to confirm before you book
- Total kilometres and days. Long trips are usually charged per km with a daily minimum.
- Tolls, parking, state tax and driver allowance. Ask clearly whether these are included.
- Night driving. Driving after 10 pm often has an extra charge, and for safety we prefer to avoid it.
- AC and luggage carrier. In a Tempo Traveller, make sure there is a roof carrier or rear space for bags.
- Driver experience on the route. A driver who knows the temple timings and parking saves a lot of time.
